Chicken Shawarma with Garlic Sauce

A quick and easy Chicken Shawarma recipe featuring marinated, grilled chicken served in warm pita with creamy garlic sauce and fresh vegetables.

  • 1 lb chicken thighs, sliced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground paprika
  • 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 pita breads
  • 1 cup garlic sauce
  • Fresh vegetables (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers) for serving

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix olive oil, cumin, paprika, turmeric, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Add chicken and marinate for at least 1 hour.
  2. Preheat a grill or skillet over medium heat. Cook marinated chicken until golden and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes per side.
  3. Warm pita breads on the grill.
  4. Assemble shawarma by placing cooked chicken in pitas and topping with garlic sauce and fresh vegetables.
  5. Serve immediately and enjoy the exotic flavors!

Notes

Slice chicken thin for faster cooking and tenderness. Marinate for at least 1 hour but overnight is best. Cook on medium-high heat for a good sear.
