Delightful cherry bars with a chewy base and almond glaze, perfect for the holiday season.

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup cherry pie filling
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Gradually add in the flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms.
  4. Press the dough into the prepared baking dish evenly.
  5. Spread the cherry pie filling over the dough.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes until lightly golden.
  7. While baking, combine powdered sugar, milk, and almond extract in a bowl to make the glaze.
  8. Once the bars are done baking, let them cool completely, then drizzle the glaze over the top.
  9. Cut into squares and enjoy.
