Christmas Cherry Bars

Delightful cherry bars with a buttery crust and almond-flavored glaze, perfect for holiday gatherings.

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 can cherry pie filling
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond flavoring (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Gradually mix in the flour and salt until well combined.
  4. Press half of the dough into the bottom of the prepared baking pan to form the crust.
  5. Spread the cherry pie filling evenly over the crust.
  6. Add almond extract to the remaining dough and crumble the rest over the cherry filling.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
  8. Allow to cool completely before mixing powdered sugar, milk, and almond flavoring to create a glaze.
  9. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bars before cutting into squares.

Notes

Let the bars cool completely before cutting to ensure clean edges. You can substitute other fruit fillings if cherries are not available.
