Classic Margherita Pizza

A traditional Italian pizza topped with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 packet (2¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • ¾ cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup canned San Marzano tomatoes, crushed
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella, sliced
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Extra virgin olive oil for drizzling

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it stand for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Knead until smooth, about 10 minutes.
  3. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour.
  4. Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C).
  5. Punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to form a pizza base.
  6. Spread crushed tomatoes over the dough, leaving a border around the edges.
  7. Top with mozzarella slices and season with salt and pepper.
  8. Bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes until the crust is golden and cheese is bubbling.
  9. Remove from oven, garnish with fresh basil and a drizzle of olive oil. Slice and serve!

Notes

Use fresh ingredients for the best flavor. Can add toppings as per preference.
