Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • Powdered sugar for rolling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg, milk, vanilla extract, and red food coloring until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Roll the chilled dough into balls and then roll each ball in powdered sugar.
  8. Place the dough balls on a lined baking sheet, spacing them apart.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the cookies have crinkled and the edges are set.
  10. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Enjoy your festive cookies!

Notes

Make sure your butter is softened but not melted for the best texture. Chilling the dough helps to keep the cookies from spreading too much while baking.
