Crispy Ham & Cheese Puff Pastry Stacks

Quick and easy crispy stacks made with layers of puff pastry, ham, and cheese, perfect for snacks or appetizers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed (about 8 x 8 inches)
  • 68 thin slices ham (about 4 ounces)
  • 4 ounces grated cheese (cheddar, Swiss, or Gruyère)
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter (optional, for brushing)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment.
  2. Unfold the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut into four equal squares.
  3. If desired, spread a thin layer of mustard on each pastry square.
  4. Place a slice of ham on each square, sprinkle a layer of grated cheese, and repeat for 2–3 layers, leaving the top layer for pastry.
  5. Place another pastry square on top to form a stack and gently press the edges to seal. Trim the edges if needed.
  6. Brush the top and sides with beaten egg for color and crispness, and optionally brush melted butter on the edges.
  7. Transfer stacks to the baking sheet and bake for 15–20 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
  8. Remove from oven and cool for 3–5 minutes so the cheese sets. Serve warm.

Notes

Keep puff pastry cold until baking for the best rise. For variations, consider using different cheeses or meats.
