Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz (340 g) pasta (penne, rigatoni, or any short pasta)
  • 1 lb (450 g) sausage, sliced (Italian sausage, smoked sausage, or your preferred type)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) honey
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) soy sauce (low sodium recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) chicken broth
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta according to package instructions. Salt the water generously. Drain and set aside, reserving 1/2 cup of pasta water.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced sausage and brown on both sides for 5-7 minutes. Transfer to a plate.
  3. In the same skillet, add minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Add honey, soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar, stirring well. Pour in chicken broth and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add the browned sausage back to the skillet, letting it simmer for 3-4 minutes. Toss in the cooked pasta, adding reserved pasta water if necessary. Stir in butter.
  5. Season with salt and pepper, then garnish with chopped parsley. Serve warm with grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
